Assessment of cardiovascular magnetic resonance aortic stiffness in patients with increased cardiovascular risk: role of traditional risk factors and lung hyperinflation
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Cardiovascular disease (CVD) accounts for up to 50% of all deaths in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Increased arterial stiffness has been shown to predict cardiovascular events beyond the current traditional risk factors. We sought to assess the relationship of aortic stiffness in patients with elevated global cardiovascular risk against those with COPD and lung hyperinflation.

Unravelling the phenotype of cardiovascular inflammation with magnetic resonance imaging: detecting the change with anti-TNF treatment in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
Background Excess of cardiovascular (CV) morbidity and mortality in RA patients is not fully explained by traditional CV risk factors. Evidence suggests the presence of inflammation-induced vascular and myocardial injury and dysfunction, leading to premature atherosclerosis and heart failure. Aortic stiffness, an independent predictor of cardiac events and a marker of pulsatile LV afterload, im...
متن کاملCardiovascular outcome associations among cardiovascular magnetic resonance measures of arterial stiffness: the Dallas heart study
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has been validated for the noninvasive assessment of total arterial compliance and aortic stiffness, but their associations with cardiovascular outcomes is unknown. The purpose of this study was to evaluate associations of CMR measures of total arterial compliance and two CMR measures of aortic stiffness with respect to future cardiovascular ev...

متن کاملHigh-Density Lipoprotein Measurement Methods: From Precipitation to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR)
Introduction: Extensive research suggests a common hypothesis regarding the protective role of total high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) against cardiovascular disease (CVD). This hypothesis indicates an inverse relationship between CVD and high HDL-C levels. Various mechanisms, such as reverse cholesterol transport, besides anti-inflammatory and antioxidant functions, indicate HDL-C a...
